How to protect your business and its computers
Cumberland Business Internet Banking has been designed to protect your business and its money, but you must also take precautions to ensure that your computer is secure and that your personal details are kept safe. If your business is ever an innocent victim of fraud as a result of our Internet Banking service, we will fully reimburse the money taken from your account. Simple as that.
We strongly recommend that you should take the following basic steps to ensure you and your computer are as secure as possible:
Install a firewall
Install and maintain a firewall to protect your computer from unauthorised access by others. A suitable security software package will include this facility
- Firewall / Anti-Virus
Install and maintain anti-virus
Install and maintain anti-virus software, and set it to automatically scan your computer and all of its files on a regular basis. Also, make sure it is set to scan all files on your computer as they are opened, in particular those you receive as email attachments. A suitable security software package will include this facility
Configure automatic updates
Set up your computer to receive all updates to your browser, operating system and software automatically, in particular your security software referred to above
Keep security settings high
Set your browser security settings to the highest possible level which will allow you to continue using the internet as normal without blocking access. For guidance on how to do this, refer to the Help section of your browser
- WI-FI Security
Secure your wireless internet
If you use a wireless network, you should make sure your hub is secure by installing a Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) or Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) system. Also, make sure you enable any integrated firewall capabilities on the hub which may exist. Consult your Internet Service Provider and/or hub manufacturer for further details
