Accessibility

We are committed to making our websites and internet banking site accessible to all our customers, and have carefully designed them in accordance with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility guidelines.

The following 'Best Practice' methods in place include:

  • You can change the text size within the site to make it larger and smaller. This can be done using the browser settings, but it can also be done in the internet banking site using the 'Change Text Size' feature at the top right of each page.
  • We only use strong colour contrasts.
  • Where we use images, we use alternative text which provides an explanation of what the image illustrates so that those people who cannot see the image can read the text using a screen reader.
  • The text of all links has been written to make sense when taken out of the context of the sentence in which it sits. So, for example, we don't say 'click here'. Where appropriate, we have also added information to let you know if the link will open a new window or if additional software is required to view it.
  • We use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) as developed by the W3C. CSS is a design method that best gives control over how pages are displayed and assists those using screen reading devices.

Pages typically conform to at least level A accessibility standard of the W3C guidelines, with many achieving AA and AAA.
