Born in 1956, Michael was first appointed to the Board in 1996. He is from Workington, a graduate of Manchester University, a chartered accountant and until his recent retirement was the senior partner in the firm of Gibbons Chartered Accountants, which operates throughout West Cumbria. In 2005 he was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Society and in June 2007 became Chairman.

Born in 1953 , Richard grew up in West Cumbria and has worked there throughout his career. He is a solicitor and the senior partner in Milburns, a practice that operates throughout West Cumbria. Richard joined the Cumberland’s Board in 1997 and in June 2007 was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Society and Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee. Richard is also Chairman of the Remuneration Committee.

Born in 1959, Simon was first appointed to the Society’s Board in January 2003. He is the Society’s Senior Independent Director and also a member of the Remuneration Committee. Simon is Chairman and Managing Director of English Lakes Hotels Group, which has hotels and other leisure businesses in South Cumbria and North Lancashire. He is also a director of the Lake District Tourism and Conservation Partnership.

Born in 1948 , David joined the Society as a non-executive director in February 2005. He is a member of the Remuneration Committee. Before retiring in 2003, he was a director at the UK Division of Scottish Power plc. Born in Morecambe, he is a business graduate with more than 20 years’ board level experience in marketing and customer service. David also serves on the boards of Forensic Science Service Ltd and PhonePay Plus and is a National Trustee of The Abbeyfield Society.

Born in 1954, Trevor joined the Society’s Board in December 2009. He is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee and was formerly chief executive of the H&H Group until his retirement in 2008 and has a background in the banking industry. Trevor is currently chairman of Carlisle City Council’s Local Strategic Partnership, as well as being a trustee of Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland and Carlisle Cathedral Development Trust.

Born in 1960, Alan was appointed to the Board in 2011 and is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee. Alan has 30 years experience as an accountant with local firm, Armstrong Watson. He joined Armstrong Watson as a graduate in 1981, was appointed a partner in 1989 and elected senior partner in 2004. Alan is also Chair of Governors at Robert Ferguson School
